A fresh start and a time to refocus

A native Missourian who grew up in the small town of Arcadia ready to create his own path in life, my name is Marcus Files. After earning an associate degree at Mineral Area College I sought to further my education in the wonderful college town of Columbia, MO. Shortly after moving here I found myself standing not in a Mizzou commons, but in the Marine Corps recruiting office. Six months later I was standing on yellow footprints at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA. Until that time I had managed McDonald’s restaurants, helped run a UPS customer service office, and performed freelance technical support for friends and family. Now, at the age of 21 I had enlisted in the Marines and life changed more than ever before. I found a fresh start and a time to refocus.

Four honorable years of service

Having served as a Communications and Electronics Technician in the military, I have a unique interest in technology. I spent one year in Twentynine Palms, California learning electronic theory and its application within the military. Following my technical training I spent two years in Hawaii as a member of a logistics unit tasked with providing all Hawaiian Marine forces with 3rd and 4th echelon technical services. The last year of my enlistment was spent proudly serving the technical needs of the largest transportation and logistics unit in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. My team and I supported nearly 400 tactical vehicles and the respective Command Centers of all surrounding bases, keeping a 95% minimum operational status throughout the deployment. As recognition for my efforts and thanks to the dedication of my team I was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal. Along with technical skills, the military helped develop in me a greater sense of leadership and willpower. After four honorable years in the United States Marine Corps, I returned to Columbia and sought to re-enter the civilian world with fresh ambition for the Information and Technology Industry and a desire to serve the community.

The best has yet to come.

I first found work at Sprint’s Broadway retail and technical service store. I met Nate when his family came to see me about their Sprint account. Here, Nate’s interest in hiring me took root. Within one week, I accepted a part time position with Nate’s Computer Repair as a technician for Nate’s ever growing residential clients. I have since taken on a full time position with Nate’s Computer Repair as Operations Manager and serve many roles within the company. Additionally, my education continues to flourish at Columbia College where I attend evening classes and continue to grow my knowledge as a business manger. I will soon graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I am lucky to work for a distinguished small business such as Nate’s, offering outstanding customer support, a professional attitude, and ambitious technical service to the entire city and surrounding areas of Columbia. After all of the great experiences I’ve had in my life, the best has yet to come.
